To conclude the series from the past three weeks, here is the third and final part of my travel dream list:

7.) Scandinavia

My daughters have a Swedish last name, and half of their heritage is northern European.  If they ever wanted to determine their true heritage, then I would bring them here.  But I’d be fine going with only RAS too, if the opportunity arose.

To be more specific, my ideal wish list trip would be to Norway, Sweden, Denmark and (if there was enough time) Iceland.  If I could only go to one or two of them, that would be fine.  I simply imagine that being in any of these countries would allow the opportunity to view dramatic scenery and fantastic seafood. Well, I’m not sure if I could handle pickled herring, but I would try just about anything else.

8.) Egypt

Like anyone who wants to travel to this ancient land, I would most want to see the pyramids, the Sphinx and other antiquities.  But I’m just not sure which way I’d take my journey.  A few river cruise companies have offered itineraries down the Nile, which would be an ultra-comfortable way to travel.  That would especially be true in the intense heat of summertime, which is probably when I would go.

On the other hand, traveling by land would be ideal for exploring areas away from the Nile.  I am interested in seeing the resort area of Sharm el Sheikh, which I learned about for a writing project a few years ago.  I would get re-certified in scuba diving if I went here, because it’s on the Red Sea with its amazing reefs and sea life.

9.) The Danube River region

A year and a half ago, I went on a Viking river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel along the Rhine.  It impressed me so much that I pretty much tell everyone that they should go on one at least once.  Apparently, the slightly more popular destination is the Danube, which is further inland through Central Europe.  Most cruises run between southern Germany and Budapest, Hungary, although some head to Bucharest, Romania and the Black Sea.

Because I’ve been on Viking, I’d definitely try to go on another cruise line, like AmaWaterways or Avalon.  The main cities that I would look forward to seeing would be Vienna and Salzburg, Austria (I’m a big “Sound of Music” fan) and Budapest.

10.) The South Pacific

When it comes to this area of the world, I don’t think I have a preferred island.  I imagine these destinations, like Tahiti or Fiji, would offer the crystal clear oceans, dramatic volcanic peaks and dancing palms.  I wouldn’t have any agenda here…just relaxation.
